About this deal

Atmospheric, dramatic and full of nerve-jangling twists and turns, Thirty Days of Darkness is a darkly funny, unsettling debut Nordic Noir thriller that marks the start of a breath-taking new series. Dus door de lage verwachtigen vond ik dit boek dus wel verrassend goed en heb hem dan ook erg snel uitgelezen. Hierdoor krijgt ie van mij 4 sterren. Dreadful. When I read this kind of bad book, trying to be charitable,I sometimes wonder if they're not intended as a (badly done) parody, but no, it's just plain awful. In Sweden’s most northern city of Kiruna, the polar night lasts for approximately 28 twenty-four-hour periods. In the Norwegian city of Tromsø, the dark hours can last for up to a month a half. If you visit Hammerfest, both the northernmost city in the world and one of the two oldest towns in Norway, the polar night lasts for almost two months. When their annual month-long polar night arrives around the corner, the town of Barrow, Alaska seems like all will be alright during that time, but all is far from alright. After strange things start to happen around the town, the town's sheriff Eben Oleson will soon discover the real horrifying truth to what's been going on: the town has been targeted by a clan of hungry, bloodthirsty vampires. After most of the town's people are killed off, the rest of population goes into hiding. With no way to call or get help from the outside world, it is up to the town's survivors to find a way to make through the month of darkness if they hope to survive. — alonzovillafra

Goodreads Dertig dagen duisternis by Jenny Lund Madsen | Goodreads

At first, I didn’t get along very well with Hannah. She seemed to have both low self esteem and a superiority complex. She writes Literature, don’t you know. Which is infinitely better than popular genres for the masses, obviously. Hate is too strong a word but it was definitely dislike at first sight. However, as the story progressed, I warmed to her, and I also feel like she makes a huge character arc throughout the book.a good crime novel has three crucial components. One: a spectacular and violent opening, preferably a murder. Two: false leads and false suspects. […] Point three is surprises.’ Sullivan commented: “If ever there was a book destined for our list, this is it. Atmospheric, dramatic and full of nerve-jangling twists, Thirty Days of Darkness is also an outrageously funny literary satire with the convergence of (or battleground between) literary and crime fiction at its heart. Hannah is a masterful character – snobby, alcoholic, world-weary and selfish, yet strangely likeable – and her public spat with a bestselling crime writer is hilarious. The entire novel is clever, literary, thoughtful and beautiful but it is also, perhaps most importantly, an absolutely brilliant Nordic Noir thriller, full of darkness, brooding tension and unsettling turns, with an exceptionally plotted mystery. The conceits, the fact that Hannah travels to a tiny fishing village in Iceland to write her crime novel, the evocative, exceptional writing, all play directly into familiar territory for us and we are going to have so much fun publishing this ultimate meta thriller.”

Thirty Days of Darkness | Book by Jenny Lund Madsen, Megan E

A Danish literary author is challenged to write a crime novel in thirty days, traveling to a small village in Iceland for inspiration, and then a body appears ... There's no camp to be found here, not always a good thing, but in 30 Days of Night, it is. I honestly cannot recommend this one enough, despite its intense gore and general panning, I implore you to at the very least give it a go, and decide for yourself.

Witty, dark, meta, ingenious and hugely compelling. I LOVED the Icelandic setting and satirical observations. EXCELLENT’Will Dean Hilariously scathing. Satirises genre fiction while creating a first-class example of it, full of suspects, red herrings and twists … wit and originality make it a joy to read’ Mark Sanderson, The Times CRIME BOOK OF THE MONTH Daniel Fienberg (April 13, 2006).

Thirty Days of Darkness is a brilliant début and Jenny Lund Madsen is a breath of fresh air on the crime novel scene,” said Hersi Smith. “We cannot wait for Orenda Books to introduce English-speaking readers to this darkly funny and deeply original Nordic Noir.”Dark and atmospheric … a bleak and beautiful evocation of Iceland, and Hannah is a pitch-perfect depiction of the bombastic neurosis that we writers know so very well’Harriet Tyce Days of Night: Dark Days is a 2010 American horror film based on the comic book miniseries of the same name. [1] It was directed by and written by Ben Ketai, alongside co-writer Steve Niles. [2] It is the fourth installment of the 30 Days of Night franchise, and serves as the sequel to the 2007 film. [3] Set chronologically after the first movie, it also takes place after the 2007 miniseries and the 2008 miniseries as well.
